Moorestown 9 - Shawnee 6 (Reg Season)
Moorestown gained a measure of respect back during their 9-6 win over Shawnee today and along the way, this young team grew even more. The score belies the play of the game and now Moorestown can move ahead, looking for that ultimate prize.
From the ride over to Shawnee with Moorestown supporters lining the way until the horn sounded, it was a Black and Gold day, all day. The Quakers controlled the game from start to finish, leading 9-3 with less than 6 minutes to go and ran the clock out in between three late goals by the Renegades. In spite of the morning start, the game was host to the season's largest crowd.
The Quakers were led by Lindsay Goldblatt and Nikki Shapiro's three goals apiece and two from Carly Taglienti. The defense led by Erin McAfee and Sheri Fauvell played their best game of the year and Bridget Bianco backed them up with seven saves.
Moorestown had several late game free positions that they chose to pull out and not give Shawnee opportunities to make a comeback. Once again, Moorestown was on the short side of the draw losing that stat 9-8, but they transitioned the ball up field very well and made the most of their 27 shots, only shooting 33%, well off their season average.
Shawnee is an outstanding team and will go a long way this season.
Moorestown was patient on attack and clearly the aggressor on defense. They were obviously motivated by last year's loss, the first in almost 11 years to NJ teams but it was not the lone reason for winning. Having played a very difficult schedule clearly has helped the Quakers steadily improve. The close losses to nationally ranked teams early have made them a better team and one that may be very dangerous as they head down the stretch into the playoffs.
