Details of Game #23:       May 26, 2011
Moorestown 8   -   Shawnee 5     (Playoffs)

The Black and Blue met again in what has become a right of passage this time of year. For the 17th out the last 18 games, Moorestown defeated it's South Jersey Rival 8-5 and in so doing, excercised the demons of last year's stunning upset.

The win over Shawnee back on April 20th meant nothing. Real redemption came in the form of today's win. Shawnee as expected, played hard and attacked Moorestown with everything they had in the 90 degree heat and held a 4-3 lead. Shawnee had everyone back from last year's thriller and was the more experienced team. The game was starting to take on an earily similar pattern as last year as the Quakers took shot after shot but they were having a catch with Alex Zaugara, the Renegades fabulous goalie. Moorestown was pressing.
Moorestown outshot Shawnee as they had 26 on the cage for the day. Several were open looks in front of the cage, two hit posts and a couple were point blank high shots that Shawnee's talented netminder gobbled up. Steph Toy led the Quakers with three first half goals but was face guarded the whole second half.
Next up is Mendham for the NJ Group 3 Championship to be held Thursday, June 2nd at Robbinsville HS.

Patience became the key on attack and better shot selection. The second half saw the Quakers dominate time of possession and they also started getting draw control which ended even at seven. As the game wore on so did Shawnee in the heat as Moorestown subbed liberally. Unfortunately, Moorestown lost one of its starters, Lindsay Goldblatt to the two yellow card rule, thus losing a quality player for half the game and also for the upcoming NJ Group 3 Championsip versus Mendham.
Although she did not score, Haleigh Dalmass was valuable in the ground ball stat line as she picked up four to go along with her sister Sydney and Toy who each had three. Bridget Bianco was once again a difference maker as she made twelve difficult saves.
The crowd, as expected, was the biggest of the season as all Moorestown/Shawnee playoff games are and they saw an intense, fast paced, physical but skilled lacrosse game. Most of these girls play along side one another with SJS and know each others talents. It's a shame that each year, one team has to lose to another, especially relatively early in the playoff picture.
