Moorestown 19 - Shawnee 8 (Playoffs)
Moorestown beat Shawnee for the 19th time in the last 20 games for the Championship of SJ Group 3 by a 19-8 score. Moorestown dominated in all facets of the game, despite losing the draw 15-12!
Moorestown had 30 shots on goal and made it difficult for the Renegades to bring the ball up the field. Even though they lost draw control for most of the game, the Quakers defense was relentnless, allowing few passes in the eight meters and contesting every offensive set the Renegades ran. Outside of a few free postiions the were awarded to Shawnee, Moorestown dominated all of the scoring opportunities.
Steph Toy and Marie McCool led the onslaught with five goals apiece, while Nikki McMonagle registered four first half goals. Mary Flick and Megan Kelly led with five legal checks and Toy came up with four ground balls and five assists. Amanda Currell was back in goal and continues to have a stellar senior campaign. Her defense in front of her, Elizabeth Johnson, Marissa Randazzo and Frankie Angeleri continue to keep opponents at bay while the offense takes care of piling up big numbers against outstanding opponents.
The seniors who have led this dominant group all season, once again showed their steely eyed focus in leading the Quakers to another amazing performance. Shawnee is a very talented group of great girls but Moorestown made the Renegades look average for the second time this season. Stats are not what is important for this group, only that the ultimate goal is reached and in doing so, this class gets to play one more time with one another. As well, the underclassmen are playing hard for their older friends, wanting three more chances to to prove their greatness and leave a lasting legacy.
The road continues Thursday May 31st as the Quakers will travel to Hunterdon Central HS to take on Mendham for the NJ Group 3 title.
